My 21st Century Classroom

Welcome
Think of the Jetsons and their "futuristic" town. Call me weird, but I see this happening. I guess I'm just a firm believer of non-stop growth in Technology. Why not use it  to your advantage if it is going to be around anyway. My "picture perfect" classroom is one with an environment benefiting the children academically, socially, and emotionally.

My ideal classroom is based on the collaborative teaching model in an inclusive kindergarten classroom with 16 students. I feel that developing a bond between student and teacher will only help you in the long run. With that, I believe teachers should serve as a mentor and educator to their students. Showing respect to your students causes a boomerang effect in which students show you their greatest attention and respect back to you. Those students have a large impact on how class will run each and every day. It is my belief that children should be strongly rewarded for well behaved actions and punished using persistence for any commotion caused during class.

I would like to teach this kind of classroom because I like to help students grow into the person they will become when they are older. Therefore, I think the students should be able to make both minor and major decisions because it not only pleases them but helps a teacher understand their interests, abilities, and learning processes.

According to the Pennsylvania Standards Kindergarten requires Mathematics and English class. There are a variety of ways to integrate technology into kindergarten. It can help to motivate and engage students in ways that other educational tools cannot. Teachers are able to administer assessments and monitor their students’ progress through the use of computers. These technological advances are also allowing for better communicating with parents in regards to their students' test scores and academic strengths and weaknesses. Technology is also a great way for kindergarten teachers to plan, research units and lesson plans and share ideas with other colleagues from all over the country.

Setting-

A well developed safe environment has an important role on learning in the classroom and I will provide just that. I will strive to make my students feels warm, comfortable, and safe because a calm classroom is a happy classroom. I strongly believe that a child’s environment helps them learn in ways that an educator cannot provide just by teaching. It influences them to stay focused. The white board helps them with visual learning because they have the PowerPoint’s, pictures, or text literally right in front of them. I provided a few features so that my authority will remain in place.

To get an accurate view on my classroom, I would compare it to a computer lab in today's time. Although it would have the most up-to-date technology so students can connect and access information through blogs, internet, pod casts, and etc.

I chose to place 4 tables with 4 computers on each table because it will give the children a opportunity to explore the web as they please and meet the requirements to use technology everyday during class time. I have a white board on the side of the room so students can present their projects so they are easily shown. I also would use the white board for interactive lessons in which I will present the lecture material. I also have 2 tables in the center so that they have extra area where they can work on non- technology related assignments.  Next I have a table in the back corner so that I can call students back to have more one on one time. There they can ask questions, make comments, or just listen to what I want their group to be doing for the day. There is also two chalkboards upfront so that I may get the students attention and write comments and directions. On the left hand side of the room there is a printer and storage with all other technologies in it. It is locked at the end of each class and students aren't allowed to leave until ALL are accounted for.

Instructional Glimpse-

I plan to create lesson plans that use technology while being hands-on at the same time. My lesson is designed for a Kindergarten classroom. The students are able to do activities in the middle of my lecture. During this lesson, I am teaching the children the children 2 SAS according the the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

We will stop each time for 10 minutes to play the interactive game on how to count and to learn the letters of the alphabet.
